We start the day with a visit of the famous GLAUMBÆR FOLK MUSEUM in Skagafjörður. GLAUMBÆR is a turf farmhouse dating from 1750-1879. The house is filled with artefacts, displaying the daily environment of our forefathers.
We head on for an adventurous RIDING TOUR. The Icelandic horse is a symbol of its country's natural forces. While easy and friendly horses wait for beginners, experienced riders may try demanding horses to discover the beauty of the valley and the wonderful gates of this unique species.



We visit the beautiful area ÁSBYRGI, formed as a horse footprint with arctic flora at its best. A peaceful pond at the foot of the gigantic cliffs once formed in a catastrophic flood invites to relax. We continue our tour to DETTIFOSS, Europe's most powerfull waterfall, 44 m high and 100 m wide, where up to 1500 tonns of water mud and sand per second rumble into Iceland's most impressive canyon.

From MÝVATN we drive the SPRENGISANDUR ROAD. In past centuries this road was a much travelled path. People from east Iceland crossed it on their way to the Althing. We stop at NÝIDALUR where we enjoy the beautiful nature before we head on to LANDMANNALAUGAR, the pearl of the central highlands. There you can enjoy a bath in a natural hot pool and see the brilliant colours of the rhyolite mountains. We proceed to ELDGJÁ, the "fire gorge", a 40 km long volcanic gorge where the picturesque mountain GJÁTINDUR dominates the view.
We drive on to KIRKJUBÆJARKLAUSTUR, a village on a farm and church site where we spend the night. According to the Book of Settlements, Irish Monks were the first settlers here.

We start the day exploring the wide open expanses of VATNAJÖKULL the largest glacier in Europe by snowmobile. This tour through a magnificent and picturesque landscape where the glacier rules will be an unforgettable experience.
After that we take a boat trip on the glacial lagoon JÖKULSÁRLÓN that is sprinkled with floating icebergs of all sizes. This unique scenic adventure offers you outstanding opportunities for photography.
You will spend another night at HOTEL SKAFTAFELL

Today we visit the small villages HELLA and SELFOSS before we proceed to KRÍSUVÍKURBJARK. There we have a fascinating view of a seabird habitat in ocean cliffs. Looking down seeing the North Atlantic Ocean's waves crushing against the rock walls it is easy to imagine that many fishing ships where lost here in previous centuries. After this adventure its time for a refreshing bath in the famous BLUE LAGOON. The mineral-rich water is world known for its healing properties, especially for skin diseases. Bathing here should be one of the highlights of your visit to Iceland. We end the day at Grand Hotel Reykjavik

This day we will spend in REYKJAVÍK, visiting the famous shopping centre KRINGLAN and the wellknown mainstreet in the heart of REYKJAVÍK LAUGAVEGUR. We spend the last night again at HOTEL ESJA.
After this impressive day you will spend the night at SEL HÓTEL MÝVATN. If you like, you can use the evening for a walk to visit the intriguing pseudo-craters of SKÚTUSTAÐIR next to the hotel.
We head on to have a view at HVERIR, a fascinating geothermal area with sizzling and bubbling sulphur mud pots. Then we cross NÁMAFJALL with its lunar-like landscape before we reach one of the lovliest spots in Iceland the lake MÝVATN where the bird life is unique and the plant life luxuriant. We visit DIMMUBORGIR, the "Dark Castles" where towering lava formations characterise the surroundings.
After that an exciting RIVER RAFTING TOUR is waiting for you on the challenging glacier river VESTARI-JÖKULSÁ. Besides fun and action is rafting through a variety of rapids an excellent way to view the stunning sights of the impressive gorges.
You will spend the night again at HOTEL TINDASTÓLL at SAUÐÁRKRÓKUR.
We start our sightseeing tour after breakfast driving to ÞINGVELLIR, the oldest parliament of the world and the beautiful lake ÞINGVALLAVATN, the largest natural lake in Iceland. Here you can see how Iceland is cracking between two geographical plates distancing each other leave as a hollow space in the earth where the crust falls in and forms canyons and a very deep lake. The water coming through the lava is so pure and good for drinking. At ÞINGVELLIR you will see "DREKKINGARHYLUR", the spot where women were drowned and nearby the place where men were beheaded in case of executions.
We proceed to GEYSIR, the most famous hot spring in the world and the active STROKKUR which erupts every few minutes some 10-20 meters high. We walk around the geothermal area with many active bubbling small hot springs and mud springs. Then we leave this fascinating attraction to travel on to GULLFOSS "The golden Waterfall", where hundreds of tons of glacial water cascade down some 32 meters into a deep river gorge. You will be amazed by its beauty.
From this scenic waterfall the road takes us into the highlands on the famous track called "KJÖLUR". We visit the unique geothermal area HVERAVELLIR between the two enormous glaciers HOFSJÖKULL and LANGAJÖKULL. At HVERAVELLIR you will have the opportunity to see the cave where the outlaws stayed and enjoy a dip in the geothermal spring. Our tour continues to the fertile valleys of SKAGAFJÖRÐ. We will pass VARMAHLÍÐ and drive on to Himnasvalir guesthouse. Egilsá
We drive on to AKUREYRI, the so called capital of North Iceland with some 15.000 inhabitants. It is the largest town outside of the capital area of Reykjavík. AKUREYRI is located at the fjord EYJAFJÖRÐUR which is surrounded by high impressive mountain ranges. We will have a look at AKUREYRI CHURCH, one of the main attractions in the town and explore the centre of this beautiful city.

We continue our tour and visit GOÐAFOSS, the "Waterfall Of The Gods" which played an important role in the history of the country, particularly in connection with the introduction of Christianity. We head on for HÚSAVÍK a beautiful fishing village and the Capital of European WHALE WATCHING. Sailing from HÚSAVÍK harbour an exciting WHALE WATCHING trip begins. Mink whales are seen on virtually every excursion – sometimes almost within touching distance. Among the larger whales, Humpbacks are the most common, but species such as Sei Whales, Fin Whales and even the mighty Blue Whales have been spotted. This night we spend at HOTEL HÚSAVÍK.
After breakfast we drive into the lunar landscape and have a view to the mountain HERÐUBREIÐ, that is often called "The Queen Of Icelandic Mountains" and a photographers dream. Then we proceed to ASKJA the famous caldera. Iceland's most gigantic and fiercest eruption was in the ASKJA caldera in 1875. During its uppheaval, lake ASKJA was formed as well as the Hellish pond VÍTI which amazingly turns into heaven when you take a bath in it. A sixty minutes walk takes you to the crater VÍTI.

We drive on to SKAFTAFELL National Park that has an area of 500 km2.. The incredible contrast between the white icecap, the black basaltic sands, the mountains, muddy glacial waters and clear brooks in narrow gulches, woodlands and a wide variety of flowering plants is enough to amaze anyone. A short hike through the arctic beauty of this region will take you to SVARTIFOSS, a waterfall, surrounded by black basalt columns.
We proceed to INGÓLFSHÖFÐI, a cape on the coast, named after the first settler Ingólfur Arnarson, who spent his first winter there in 874. We will go for an unforgettable excursion with the present farmer to view the bird cliffs.
Tonight you will stay at HÓTEL SKAFTAFELL.
We drive to VÍK IN MÝRDALUR, the southernmost village in Iceland and the only coastal village in Iceland with no harbour. We will have a look at the sandy beach of VÍK with its large breeding colony for the arctic tern and REYNISDRANGAR, three rockstacks up to 66m from the sea. According to the local folklore are they trolls turned to stone at sunrise.
We proceed to DYRHÓLAEY the southernmost point of the mainland with its rich birdlife. Here TÓIN juts out into the sea with an fascinating opening in it large enough to be passable by boats.
We head on to visit SKÓGAFOSS and SELJALANDSFOSS, two of numerous waterfalls that tumble down hillsides all along the route before we explore ÞÓRSMÖRK, the fascinating "Woods of Thor". To reach ÞÓRSMÖRK we have to cross various un-bridged glacial rivers and the mouth of a glacial lagoon, with floating icebergs at the foot of EYJAFJALLAJÖKULL, an ice covered volcano. ÞÓRSMÖRK is a broad valley with narrow canyons, caves and a romantic birch forrest surrounded by glaciers on three sides.
